Say Hello To Supersonics
Supersonics is a collection of music by Australian composer and teacher Daniel McFarlane. He's been writing exciting, catchy music for his piano students since 2006, and through the supersonics pro membership and app, our studio has unlimited access to his books and solos for the full school year!
The Supersonics library includes music for all levels, ranging from early beginning reading pieces through advanced solos. There are teaching pieces designed to reinforce specific concepts and techniques, music for holidays and special occasions, fun and flashy original solos for students of all ages, and arrangements of classical themes and folk songs.
In most cases, we'll be using these pieces as supplements to our regular curriculum- that means if a student needs some extra review on a new concept or skill, I can easily assign additional pieces for reinforcement without purchasing more books. I love Daniel's music because it was composed with today's students in mind- lots of contemporary harmonies, dramatic stormy minor sounds, and beautiful flowing melodies, all written to reinforce specific learning experiences. You can look forward to seeing his name on future recital programs and performances!
Here's four features that make this app a great addition to your musical education:
Instantly print sheet music: once I've assigned a piece, you can print instantly at home for free
Notate and share musical scores: using the screenshare during online lessons, we can mark up reminders about starting notes, finger position, chords, patterns, and rhythms and save a notated copy for student practice during the week.
Pre-recorded performance and backing tracks: students often learn a piece of music much more easily when the sound is already familiar. Through the app, they can listen to finished recordings of each piece and beginners can play along with duet parts to get a bigger, more dramatic sound. Most recordings have an adjustable speed feature so students can play along at a slower speed as they learn.
Creative exercises help teach skills like improvisation, composition, and chording that contribute to a more well-rounded education. We'll be taking some time in the spring to focus specifically on these skills, and I'm excited to put Daniel's resources to work!
